Discuss the American Dream today. What is it and to what extent is it still “alive” in the US? Use examples from Thomas Seltzer’s UXA, and other sources.
The “American Dream” is a sort of ethos or set of beliefs that drive many U.S. citizens as they work toward creating a life for themselves.
More or less it's all about equal opportunities. James Truslow Adams best captured the definition of the American Dream:
“Life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.
However, why was it created? What formed the idea that America was the land of opportunities? In which state of mind is the dream today and who is taking advantage of it?
Utdrag
They had the Ancian regime. That went out on that society had three divisions, the peasant, officials, royalty, and the clergy.
When such a huge part of society is depressed, and then out of nowhere a new country with land as far the eye can see one thought pops into your head. Opportunity.
Now hundreds of thousands are gathered in one country. Everyone with different cultures and different languages.
People need something to connect and the one thing that everyone who came to America had in common was the need for new opportunities.
People created the American dream in the 1600s, 1700s, and 1800s. But in the 1900s after all the wars and economical depression and the rise of mobs and crime. The American dream lacked the fundamentals it was built on. Opportunity for the people.
Through time the American dream will always have its basic values, but the way it´is carried out will change with time.
Over time the American dream has had three stages in three different areas. When the first imigrants moved to America it was to own their land, because back in Europe they had landlords who took most of their dividends.
The second stage came when the country had gone through the industrial revolution. After the revolution, it was owning property, one's own business, and carving a life of one's own making.
The modern American dream was created after the digital revolution and is to have financial freedom. To do whatever whenever and not having to think about money.
