Innledning
Greetings, everyone. I'm delighted to join you today as a fellow student at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. For those who haven't met me yet, I'm Patrick Claesen.
My purpose here is to deliver a speech on the evolving nature of the American Dream. This once-inspiring symbol of boundless opportunities for those who work hard is now teetering on the brink of obscurity.
It is evident to all of us that the American Dream has lost much of its prominence compared to past generations.
Personally, like many others, I have witnessed how it nearly faded away, and it is crucial that we take action to reignite our understanding and belief in its potential.
To effectively address this topic, my speech will be divided into two parts. Firstly, I'll explore and discuss different perceptions of the American Dream, and secondly, I'll delve into what it takes to achieve it in today's America.
My talk will last about ten minutes, and I'm more than happy to address any questions you may have once I've concluded my presentation. Thank you for your attention.
Utdrag
Diverse perspectives on the American Dream exist, and historically, it was defined as a land of social order where everyone could reach their full potential.
The belief was that hardworking students like us could excel in school, attend university, and achieve our unique American Dream.
However, the reality isn't always aligned with this ideal. Here in Baltimore, I have witnessed a family living in an abandoned house, facing dire living conditions with limited resources, including basic necessities like warmth, water, and food.
They struggle to survive on meager monthly earnings, and the children become targets of bullying in the neighborhood.
The dream of upward mobility seems increasingly distant, even for organized families who are burdened by student debt and face stagnant wages, making homeownership unattainable.
The once-pervasive notion of the USA being the land of boundless opportunities is challenged. Considering these challenges, I find it difficult to determine the path towards realizing the American Dream.
However, amidst these circumstances, Joel Contartese, an American immigrant entrepreneur, stands as a testament that the American Dream can still thrive.
