Innledning
All children are remarkable in their own ways, but Matilda possessed a special quality that set her apart. Born into the Wormwood family, she received very little attention or care from her parents.

Each morning, they would leave her alone in the house, forcing her to fend for herself. Despite this, Matilda taught herself how to read at a very young age. After exhausting all the reading materials available in her home, she ventured out to the public library.

Matilda's thirst for knowledge was insatiable; she devoured every children's book and then moved on to more complex grown-up books. Along the way, she taught herself advanced subjects such as mathematics and other challenging topics.

Utdrag
The following day, Matilda's friend Lavender caught a tiny salamander, and to everyone's dread, Miss Trunchbull demanded that Lavender bring a pitcher of water to the classroom and put the salamander in it.

As usual, Miss Trunchbull continued to intimidate and frighten the students, but when she sat down at her desk and went to take a sip of water, she spotted the salamander and assumed it was an alligator.

She immediately accused poor Matilda of being the culprit. However, in that moment, something incredible occurred - Matilda gazed at the glass with the salamander and felt a strange power brewing inside her.

In a sudden burst of power, Matilda knocked over the glass, and the salamander jumped onto Miss Trunchbull, sending her running out of the room in terror.

Sensing the distress of her students, Miss Honey decided to dismiss the class early that day, allowing them to recuperate from the alarming events that had just unfolded.
