A Christmassy atmosphere
Norway's Christmas traditions are unlike anything I've ever seen. The Norwegians go all out during the festive season, indulging in peculiar foods such as rotten fish and sheephead, complete with eyes!
They are so excited about Christmas that they can hardly wait until the 24th before tearing into their presents.
I was intrigued by the Norwegian Christmas culture and decided to spend my holiday there. I stayed with a family in Nesodden, where I experienced a different kind of celebration.
The moment I entered their house, the fragrant scents of cinnamon, pine tree, and ginger welcomed me. Every corner of the house was decorated with festive ornaments, and the glowing Christmas tree illuminated the room with a warm and cozy atmosphere.
I was particularly curious about their Christmas food traditions and was amazed when they told me what they typically eat during the holidays.
Lytfisck?!
"Today, on the twenty-third, we have a traditional porridge with sugar, butter, and cinnamon," the father of the family explained to me in his broken English. "And on Christmas Eve, we have 'lutefisk'."
"Lutefisk? What's that?" I asked, struggling to understand his accent.
