Innledning
As the First World War raged on, soldiers from Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada, were being transported towards the eastern coast for their deployment in Europe as a part of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade.

During a stop at White River, Ontario, Lieutenant Harry Colebourn purchased a young female black bear cub for $20 from a hunter who had shot its mother. He decided to name the cub 'Winnipeg', in honor of his hometown, or affectionately 'Winnie' for short.

Utdrag
Methuen released 'Winnie-the-Pooh' on October 14th, 1926, followed by 'Now We are Six' in 1927, and 'The House at Pooh Corner' in 1928, all with enchanting illustrations by E.H. Shepard.

The Pooh-books quickly became popular with readers of all ages and have since been translated into nearly every language. The combined sales of the four Methuen editions, which includes 'When We Were Very Young,' is estimated to be over 20 million copies as of 1996.

These figures do not take into account sales of the four books published by Dutton in Canada and the United States, or the countless foreign-language editions available in more than 25 languages worldwide.
