What led me to select Las Vegas as my theme was its grandiose reputation as a bustling city with numerous casinos and hotels that have captured the hearts of many travelers worldwide.

In addition to that, Las Vegas has also served as a prime location for some of the most iconic movies, including Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Leaving Las Vegas, and C.S.I.

Another aspect that fascinated me about Las Vegas is that the city was constructed right in the heart of a vast desert. It's a testament to the tenacity and determination of those who built and continue to maintain the city despite its harsh environment.

With that in mind, I decided to delve into the rich history of Las Vegas, starting from its humble beginnings in the early 1700s to the present day, to gain a deeper understanding of how this vibrant city came to be.

On May 15, 1905, Las Vegas came into existence as a bustling city with the auctioning of 110 acres of land located between Stewart Avenue, Garces Avenue, Main Street, and 5th Street (Las Vegas Boulevard).

Initially, the city was administered as part of Lincoln County. However, in 1909, Las Vegas was appointed the county seat for the newly established Clark County.

This marked a significant turning point in the city's history, as it would go on to become one of the most sought-after destinations in the world, attracting millions of tourists each year.

From its humble beginnings as a small town in the heart of the desert, Las Vegas has evolved into a thriving metropolis that never sleeps, with its glittering lights, grand hotels, and world-famous casinos drawing in visitors from all corners of the globe.

On March 16, 1911, Las Vegas took its first steps towards becoming the iconic city it is today, by incorporating as a city and adopting its first charter.

Back then, the city spanned an area of 19.18 square miles and was home to only about 800 residents, which was less than 1% of Nevada's total population. In contrast, Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, had a population of 3,321 people at that time.
