Ellis Island was a station in America where the immigrants had their first stop in America.
It is an Island on Hudson river in New York. They had to do tests and get new papers to be allowed to live in America. The station was in operation between 1892 and 1954.

The first thing the immigrants saw when they came to New York was the statue of liberty. 120,00 were sent back because of disease and disabilities.
