Innledning
In this text I am going to compare two texts: The Custom, which is written by Charlie Patsauq and Butterflies which is written by Patricia Grace. I am also going to talk about the characterization used in both of the texts.
Utdrag
The old man tells his two sons that he fully understands their situation and hasanticipated this.
He also says that they have his blessings, which tells me that he is a caring father that is trying to make it easier for his sons to leave him.
The two sons proceed to ask their father how he wants to die, the old man says that he commands them to hang him.
When hanging their father the older son did not manage to bring himself the courage to kick the ice block underneath his father.
The younger son finally speaks and says that he will do it. After saying his final goodbyes to his father, he kicks the ice block and the old man dies.
In “Butterflies”, the little girl and her grandparents are described as quite ordinary people.
The little girl goes to school, the grandparents live peacefully at home where they grow their own food such as cabbages and beans.
The grandfather describes his granddaughter as a clever girl who writes in her book every single day.
The grandparents and the little girl seem to have a nice relationship. The grandfather seems like a wise and peaceful person.
He tells the little girl that she has to go to school, listen to the teacher and do as the teacher says.
The grandmother also seems like a wise and peaceful person, she tells the little girl to go get her lunch, put it in her bag.
She also says that the little girl has to remember to come straight back home after school and likewise the grandfather, she also says that the little girl has to listen to the teacher and do as the teacher says.
The grandparents are both telling her to always listen to the teacher and do as the teacher says.
This makes me believe that the grandparents want her to have a good education, and a successful life. Later in the story, the granddaughter arrives home from school.
