Summary
William Wallace's early life was marked by tragedy as both his father and brother died while fighting against the English.
He was then raised by his uncle, who took him on travels around Europe for many years. When he returned to his homeland, William fell deeply in love with a young woman named Murron and they married in secret to avoid the English law that allowed nobles to rape newlywed brides.
Sadly, Murron was brutally killed by English soldiers who attempted to rape her. This sparked a deep anger and thirst for revenge in William, who gathered his fellow villagers to retaliate against the English. In a fierce battle, they managed to kill all the English soldiers and reclaim their village.
William Wallace emerged as a formidable leader and rallied an army to fight against the Englishmen. With his tactical skills and determination, they achieved a major victory and William was knighted for his bravery.
In a bold move, they burned down an English garrison and sent the survivors back to England with a message of Scotland's freedom.
William's army then invaded the city of York and took control. As a warning to the English king, they sent the decapitated head of the dead English commander to him.
King Edward of England, seeking to end the rebellion, sent his son's wife, Princess Isabella, to offer William money and land in exchange for peace.
However, William could not be swayed and revealed to Isabella the tragic fate of his secret wife, Murron.
Isabella, moved by William's story, sent a warning to him through her maid about the impending English attack. The king, furious at Isabella's betrayal, declared war on Scotland in William's absence.
