We've always been told that love is a beautiful experience, haven't we? It's that warm flutter in your stomach, the racing heartbeat, where nothing else seems to matter except that one special person.
But picture this: you're enveloped in those feelings, believing your significant other shares them, yet in reality, they don't. Can you fathom the pain of being deeply in love, only to find it unreciprocated? That's a searing ache.

Their relationship mirrors this very silence and stillness. They've become a couple of quiet souls, hardly exchanging words except for the essentials.
The deeper conversations about their relationship and the current challenges it faces have become rare. Instead, they opt for silence, allowing circumstances to unfold on their own, even when it might exacerbate matters. Another instance of symbolism involving the snake is found at the conclusion of the short story,
“He takes a long swig of beer and then for kicks pours some over the bag. “You like that?” (p. 4, ll. 128-129)
As the man torments the snake confined in the bag, it draws a stark parallel to how he's inflicting emotional distress on his girlfriend by persisting in the relationship, despite it being in the best interest of both to part ways.
“(…) Takes up the shovel. Raising it above his head, he brings the shovel down on the Python Woman. Again. Again. Again. Until the bag is dead still.” (p. 4, ll. 131-132)
In the climactic moment, when he ultimately ends the snake's life, it signifies his long-overdue confession of his genuine feelings.
Additionally, the character of the snake catcher carries symbolic weight, embodying the allure of the forbidden yet tantalizing.
“She steps down from the caravan, to take hold of his forearm (...) “Somewhere there”, she says, holding onto him tighter.” (p. 2, ll. 71-72)
In his presence, she finds a refuge, a safety that eludes her when she's with her boyfriend. Alternatively, one can interpret her grip on his arm as a metaphor for her steadfast commitment to their relationship. She refuses to give up, holding on with unwavering determination.
