Activism is the action people who uses or supports strong actions takes to see the changes they want to see in the world.
A famous activist is Martin Luther King jr, who led the civil rights movement in the United States from the mid-1950s, until he got killed in 1968.
With other words, he fought against racism and discrimination. The world has come a long was since Martin was murdered, but have it come long enough?
If the world is free of racism and discrimination, why do we have to make movies like “The Hate U Give”?
Why was there a huge BLM demonstration in the US in 2020? In this essay, I’m going to show you how activism can change the world.

Even though activists such as Martin Luther King jr and Rosa Parks changed the world, I don’t think the world is just as they had hoped.
In Martins’ speech from 1963, he said that he had “a dream about ethnic equality and an end to all discrimination in the US”. We have come longer on our fight against racism, but I’m not sure that Martins’ dream is a reality just yet.
In 2019 a movie called “The Hate U Give” were released on Netflix. This movie takes up important matters just as racism and discrimination.
In the movie Star witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best-friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer.
Now she has to decide if she will stay silent, or stand up for whats right. This movie can influence people enough to act or speak up, because it’s real. The movie was based on a true story, and I think many people can relate to the film.
In 2020 a black man named George Floyd was killed my a police officer in the US. This is a story that can appear similar to what happened to Khalil in the movie “The Hate U Give”.
This murder lead to a movement called BLM – black lives matter. In this movement thousands of Americans demonstrated in the street for social justice and against racism.
