The history behind today’s mary-kateandashley brand phenomenon
The Mary-Kate and Ashley brand phenomenon can be traced back to their debut on the hit U.S. television series Full House at just nine months old.

Their shared role as Michelle Tanner began at a salary of $2,400 per episode, but their star power quickly propelled them to earn $80,000 per show each, thanks in large part to the guidance of their showbiz attorney turned manager, Robert Thorne.

Under Thorne's leadership, the twins became the youngest producers in Hollywood history at just four years old and were each worth $10 million by age six.

Thorne went on to create Dualstar Entertainment Group Inc., and at age seven, the twins became executive producers.

Despite the end of Full House in 1995 when Mary-Kate and Ashley were nine years old, their careers continued to soar.

They starred in their first feature film, It Takes Two, which was a box office success, earning $11 million in the United States alone.

In 1997, Thorne produced three new videos for their ongoing series, "You're Invited to Mary-Kate and Ashley's," which proved to be another lucrative venture.

The series continued until the year 2000 when their final video, "You’re Invited to Mary-Kate and Ashley's School Dance Party," was released. The girls also starred in straight-to-video movies and a sitcom.

In 2001, Mary-Kate and Ashley began to appeal to a more grown-up audience with movies like "Our Lips Are Sealed," which even made Amazon.com's bestsellers list.

The older roles they played in these movies were controversial, but they proved to be a successful strategy for reaching a larger audience.

Their success wasn't limited to the entertainment industry, either. Fans were eager to emulate the twins' fashion sense, which led to the release of the Mary-Kate and Ashley clothing line in Wal*Mart stores.

The line has been a hit and has expanded to other countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Mary-Kate and Ashley entertainment stores were also opened in the United States, featuring everything "Mary-Kate and Ashley" that fans could possibly want.
