English is a widely spoken language. Over 350 million people have English as their mother tone, while approximately half a billion has it as their second language.

English has become a lingua franca and is often used in economic and political trades worldwide. Multiple factors have contributed to English becoming a lingua franca.

The British Empire´s colonization all around the world, the Americanization after the two world wars and the British entertainment business from middle 1500´s to early 1600´s where William Shakespeare was a crucial figure.

After the two world wars the world was under huge rebuilding. Many countries were vulnerable and under change. USA however were doing better than ever.

American business was doing fabulously, and English as a language became crucial to initiate trade with the United States. American culture grew in popularity and jazz, rock and movies, spread into the UK, and later Europe.

Hollywood became an important source of entertainment during the 1960´s, and the English language became the main language in the entertainment industry. The entertainment industry was also affected by a man back in the middle 1500´s. His name was William Shakespeare.
