Innledning
There is no doubt that social media has changed today's society. The way we communicate is completely different today than it was some years ago.
In addition, social media influences young people's views of the environment and themselves. What are the positive and negative sides of social media? Does social media lead to positive or negative changes in our society?
Utdrag
Today's youth are referred to as prosperous and active. Nevertheless, mental health problems among young people have increased sharply in recent years.
Boys and girls seem to be affected differently. In several studies, there are various reporting on how young people were influenced by social and digital media.
Girls reported that they often felt symptoms such as anxiety, depression, reduced self-esteem or self-esteem, and body pressure.
They also showed that the more time girls spend on social media, the more this affected their mental health and emotional life.
Boys reported reactions such as frustration, aggression, and disturbances in concentration. Studies show that online games affect boys' temperament and lead to increased aggressive behavior. (Siw Brattøy, 2019)
On the other side, social media can lead to positive things as well. It can cheer you up, inspire you, and a lot of people relax and disconnect a little from everyday life when on social media, which can be a good thing as long as you don’t completely disappear from real life.
Seeing posts about healthy food or a beautiful nature picture can inspire you to eat healthier or spend more time outside.
Social media can also help to engage and inform about injustices around the world. The Black Lives Matter movement or the engagement we see due to the war in Ukraine would not have been possible without social media.
Low self-esteem is an increasing problem, which I think has a big connection with today's use of social media. We sit for hours daily watching what everyone else is doing and posting.
All of these images and posts we are exposed to every day, affect the way we look at ourselves. People who seem to live a perfect life, have a perfect body, and perfect friends.
