Innledning
Hello and welcome to my presentation. My topic for today is social media and addiction. This is a topic that is both very interesting and relevant today.
Today I intend to focus on how social media creates addiction. I will also answer questions such as "What is it that has made social media so popular and why does it create addiction?".
I have chosen to focus mainly on the social media app Instagram, as this is one of the most used social media both among youths.
Utdrag
Definition of addiction
The word addiction is a collective term for dependence on financially ruining, chemical substances or time-consuming activities.
A person may be addicted to a time-consuming activity when the affected person shows recurring compulsive desires to spend time only on the time-consuming activity.
The person will show weak control over the time spent on the activity and shows great indifference to the interests and pleasures of others.
Activity addiction
New technologies such as the internet and mobile telephony have led to new potentially addictive activities.
A good example is the online community Instagram, which plays on experiences and excitement.
There is a lot of attention from the media on the online community and there is a lot of pressure on "everyone" to be on Instagram.
An online community such as Instagram helps to strengthen the feeling of a social community, in some cases also psychological closeness.
Instagram in itself is not harmful, at least not in the same way as drugs, but is rather a communication channel and a source of production.
Instagram only becomes harmful when its use comes at the expense of other
important areas.
A person can be defined as an activity addict when the person concerned has a strong urge to use Instagram and difficulty in regulating the use of
time. Instagram takes up so much time that it comes at the expense of other activities, or lower priority, for example time with family and friends.
