Innledning
The beach was teeming with people as my parents and I stood at the back of the crowd. The air was warm, and the sun illuminated the Apollo 11 rocket, its white surface reflecting on the ocean.
The atmosphere buzzed with excitement, as if everyone sensed that a momentous event was about to unfold.
One of the most exhilarating days of my life was July 16, 1969. In the afternoon, we drove to a beach near the Kennedy Space Center to witness the historic Apollo 11 launch, the first human mission to the moon.
I was just 15 years old at the time, but my interest in the Apollo mission had already been piqued, perhaps due to living near the space center where it all happened.
Arriving over an hour before liftoff, the beach was already crowded with eager spectators. Though the rocket was some distance away, we could see it standing tall on the launchpad. Through binoculars, we could even make out human figures moving around.
