The political blogger Alex Burton contends that living in the world today is worse than 50 years ago, and those who disagree are wrong.

He argues with mentioning conflicts, suffering refugees, civil wars and wars all over the world. He says that every medium he uses present exactly this.

Utdrag
Simultaneous, the graph “Battle deaths per 1 000 000 people, 1946-2014” presents that his utterance is not based on facts.

The graph illustrates the correlation between battles and the resulting deaths between 1946 and 2014 by giving a number of casualties per million.

It shows that people dying in battle have dropped drastically from 1946 until today, and within these years it has been a decrease but with instability. The decrease from 1946 is not linear but pervasive and continuous.

To contradict Alex Burton’s exclamation, the graph shows that there were 225 casualties in 1950 compared with around 5 casualties in 2010.
