Innledning
Would you like to know what it's like to be me? I have a sad story to tell. My name is Christina Withfield, and I came into this world on a cold, blustery day.
The doctor who was supposed to deliver me got his car stuck in a ditch, leaving my mother to give birth with only my older sister by her side. Despite the difficulties, my sister helped my mother through the painful process.
It wasn't until an hour or so after my birth that the doctor finally arrived. He was full of apologies for being late, but it wasn't until weeks later that they discovered something was seriously wrong with me. You see, I was born blind, and no one had noticed it until my sister Julianne began to play with me.
At first, she thought I was just unresponsive to her silly noises and antics, but as time went on, she started to notice that my eyes hardly moved. She didn't want to disappoint my mother, so she kept her findings to herself and began to test me secretly.
She tried to see if I could grab for things, if I could recognize different paintings, if I could see in the dark or in bright sunlight.
But no matter what she tried, I remained blind. Eventually, she had no choice but to tell our mother what she had discovered. It was a difficult time for all of us.
Utdrag
As I listened intently to the conversation, tears began to well up in my eyes, and I found myself crying. It was an irrational reaction, and I couldn't quite understand why I was so emotional. How could anyone possibly be envious of my own life?
My sister, Julianne, noticed my tears and comforted me by placing her hand on the back of my neck. She reassured me that everything was okay and that there was no need to cry for her.
But the truth was that I couldn't bring myself to tell her the real reason behind my tears. It wasn't her that I was crying for, but rather, it was myself that I was mourning for.
My sister then confided in me something that she had never shared with anyone before, not even our mother. Hearing her secret made me smile again, and her laughter filled the room.
Her laughter was so infectious and full of life that it made me realize that our lives weren't so bad after all. It turned out that Julianne had met someone special - a boy who had captured her heart.
