Task 2.
Task 3.
Utdrag
1. The message Greta Thunberg tries to tell, is that the world doesn’t do enough. They promise politics and solutions, but they are still nowhere in sight.
Ecosystems are collapsing, people are suffering and dying. And nothing is happening, the world is moving on without any change. Greta Thunberg is saying that words doesn’t make a difference, but action does.
2. A) Greta Thunberg uses some statistics, for example “The popular idea of cutting our emissions in half in 10 years only gives us a 50% chance of staying below 1,5 degrees” that will make the credibility stronger, because she is polite and have done some research. S
he is also saying “how dare you” in the speech, and that will make the listener feel more attacked of her words.
B) When Greta Thunberg spoked, she expressed her selves to the people, she used words like you, your, us and we. That will make the listener feel more affiliated.
She also touches up on some serious topics, for example Co2 or that people are suffering and dying. That will make people feel sad and guilty.
C) The speech was well written, she used all the rhetorical devices, and they were all connected to each other, which made the speech slightly better.
She used a grown-up language, which can influence in a good way and in a bad way.
The good thing about using a more polite and sophisticated language, is that people will understand what she is saying. And she will also have the opportunity to convince them with all the facts.
The bad thing is that when a young girl uses big words, they might not believe or listen to what she is saying, because she is just a child.
They might think she don’t know what she is talking about. Because she is using words that 16-year-old girls not use that often.
3. The speech is a symbol for democracy because Greta got an opportunity to speak up for what she believed in. In a big and powerful city as New York.
