Utdrag
In this text, I will start by explaining how English conquered the world. I am taking the liberty to take a more detailed look at how the British Empire, the Industrial Revolution and the cultural power of the US and UK affected the spread of the global language.

Furthermore, I will examine how Singapore became an English-speaking country, which other languages are spoken in the country, their older history and in addition of how they use the speech.

I will discuss the differences and similarities, and the question for the section is; has their older superior affected the country more than just linguistically?

On top of that, I am going to reflect on the future of both Norwegian and English. Is English being replaced by other languages? Will the Norwegian language die out?

The fact that English is by this time one of the world's most widespread language is closely linked to the creation and spread of British colonial rule.

In the 17th century, the language was only spoken in England and south-east Scotland, and the number of English speakers was only about seven million people .

In the early 17th century England became interested in trade and colonization, and as the English emigrated and established colonies under distant skies, the language they spoke was spread over large parts of the world .

At that time, that the British Empire was at its height in the early 1920s, it covered around a quarter of all land area and of the entire world population .

In addition to Great Britain, the empire then included what is now Canada, Australia, Pakistan, India, several small Asian states such as Ceylon and Singapore, as well as large parts of Africa.
