Utdrag
Bridget is the main character in the book. She is a thirty-two years old single woman who lives in London by her own. She finds herself in hapless situations, and decides to write å diary.
Bridget counts calories, pounds, cigarettes and alcohol consumption every day for a year.
She also is telling about her love life. To be brief, Bridget is a self-involved woman concerned with her weight, appearance and securing a boyfriend
Minor figures in The book are Mark and Daniel. Mark is the guy Bridget's mother wants her to meet. He is a lawyer, and is not so similar to Bridget. Bridget has a crush on her boss, Daniel.
Mark is therefore not so much in her mind anymore. Daniel works at a book publishing company in London and can be assumed as a womaniser.
---
The setting in the book take place in the city "London." Bridget lives in a small apartment by her own. You get information about this at the first page.
The office is where Bridget met Daniel. They exchanged messengers and made out. She was also trying to escape there.
When Bridget is telling about her love problems, she often do this at the bars, with her friends. These are the "main places" in the book.
---
The author wrote the book in first person. Also a type of point of view when a character in the story tells the story using “I,” “me” and “my”.
A sentence is for example "Oh, why am I so unattractive? Why? Even a man who wears bumblebee socks thinks I am horrible."
The sentence shows that the book is written in first person. I like when the point of view is first person, because it easier to immerse myself into a book.
You become the main person when you read the book. You see what him\her thinks, sees and feels. If the book was written in third person, it would not be a diary.
