Innledning
The internet is a fantastic invention. There is information available on just about anything. In one way or another, all questions can be answered.
Young people no longer have to look in a dictionary for answers, and they can make contact with people all over the world in an instant. Could anything bad ever come out of this?
The song “If You Log On To The Web Today…” claims that “For every site that ever there was will gather your data simply because on the web today a notion of privacy is for the thick hicks.”.
No matter where you find yourself online, web pages will collect information. It could be anything from position, name, address or email to which product was spent the most time looking at.
Utdrag
Just about anything is available on the internet. Young people, or children, can stumble upon content that is not appropriate for them to see.
Of course, parents can install programs that limit or block explicit content, but the thing is that it does not get it all.
There is no way to completely guard children from being exposed to adult content. This risk is always present when children use the internet.
For naïve children, the internet can be a dangerous place. Online, men and women can give themselves out to be a lot younger than they really are.
Many use this to become “friends” with children the same age as they pretend to be. Later, that can lead to the actual child wanting to please their new online friend.
This could happen through giving out their address, sending nude photos or even agreeing to meet. This is truly one of the most dangerous situations for a child to end up in.
Another variation of pretending to be someone you are not on the internet is catfishing. The person is not necessarily pretending to be younger, or aiming at children, but the person still uses a fake persona with false information.
They are lying about their identity, either with the intention to fool someone, or they do it because they do not feel good about who they really are.
