About the Author
Born in Edinburgh in 1932, Joan Lingard spent most of her formative years in Belfast, Northern Ireland, before moving away at the age of eighteen.
Despite her young age, she had already discovered her passion for writing and had been actively pursuing it since she was eleven.
Joan knew from an early age that writing was her calling, and she never wavered in her dedication to this craft.
Aside from her well-known works, such as "Between Two Worlds," "The Guilty Party," and "Tug of War," Joan Lingard has also authored other notable titles such as "The File on Fräulein Berg," "The Freedom Machine," "Frying As Usual," "Glad Rags," "Hands Off Our School," "Night Fires," and "Rags and Riches."
Leading Characters
The novel "Across the Barricades" features Sadie Jackson and Kevin McCoy as its two main characters. Sadie, a 16-year-old Protestant girl, resides in the "Protestant" region of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, Kevin, an 18-year-old Catholic boy, calls the "Catholic" part of Belfast his home.
The story follows the unlikely relationship that blossoms between the two young individuals despite the religious divide that separates their communities.
