Innledning
One of my biggest passions when I was young, was the animal I called “sea bear”. You probably wonder why I call these species sea bears, and the explanation is quite easy.
These bears are carnivores but spend almost all their time around ice/water. This is how they got their Latin name Sea bears. These poor bears are one of thousands threatened species that are affected by global warming.
Utdrag
When more and more ice melts, polar bears` life gets harder and harder. If I mention that the sea ice is melting, what comes to your mind then?
If the first thing that came to your mind was that if the ice melts completely, polar bears are going extinct. You are right.
Sea ice isn’t just used as a tool for polar bears for hunting but has one more purpose. First, they need a place to rest and concentrate on their victim.
Second sea ice is also a great source of food. Seals eat a kind of algae that grows under ice. Seal is one of the most important source of food polar bears have.
If ice melts, not only will polar bears loose an important part for hunting, but seals, shrimps and fish lose a source to their food. Oil and gas mining is part of making polar bears go extinct.
The new project the U.S. want to start, can not only put polar bears in danger, but every other animal there too. Half their times goes to hunting (mostly seals), and they need their sea ice to carry through this.
If these incredible animals get in direct contact with oil, it will die. The new project will also affect the algae I just talked about. This will ruin the Artic food web. (World Wildlife, 29.10.2021)
In conclusion polar bears can’t make it on earth, without their sea ice. We must keep our heads up and do what we can to protect this animal. Everything helps!
Buy less clothes, take public transport, and importantly recycle. If polar bears go extinct, the artic food chain will collapse.
The ecosystem will get unbalanced, which has a lot of consequences on our food chain.
There will be to many seals that eats too many fish. The fish in Antarctic is crucial for the industry and provides millions of people with food.
In conclusion if polar bears go extinct, seals will eat all fish, and we will lose and important sources of food.
