Around the middle of the 1800 and until the 1970`s, the stolen generation were found in Australia. The stolen generation is a term for the half-cast children who were taken away from their families.
In the movie: The Rabbit Proof Fence, we meet three half-cast children who represents the struggle of living during the timespan of the stolen generation.
For them to get home, they followed the rabbit proof fence, which vertically crosses Australia and gave name to the movie as well.
The fence is originally made to keep rabbits away from the food-cultivation, but suddenly was given a new purpose.
Utdrag
Throughout the story, the girls moved on from place to place along the rabbit proof fence, even diagonally across a fence to the other. While crossing diagonally, they avoided people associated with the Moore river settlement who wanted to get them.
They faced both difficult and stressful issues, where they had to think as quick as they could to be able to solve what they had gotten themselves into.
The absolute main people in the movie, are the sisters Molly and Daisy, and their cousin Gracie. Suddenly the local police officer;
constable Riggs, forces them away till Moore River, which is where their problems begin. Luckily, they manage to escape Moore river, even though that does not make an end of the conflicts they will meet later.
