Innledning
The Statue of Liberty is a world-renowned symbol of freedom and democracy, located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It was a gift from the people of France to the people of the United States, and was dedicated on October 28, 1886.

The idea for the statue was first proposed by French historian and politician Édouard René de Laboulaye in 1865, as a way to celebrate the friendship between the two countries and the abolition of slavery in the United States.

The project was supported by both French and American intellectuals, and a fund-raising campaign was launched in France to finance the construction of the statue.
