Consider this fact: we live in the world's 5th largest economy, yet there are families with children forced to make heartbreaking choices between heating their homes at night or having enough food.

Young minds arrive at school with empty stomachs, and we cannot turn a blind eye to this reality. Is this the kind of country we aspire to be?

I'd like to conduct a brief poll to gauge your thoughts. Let's explore the number of individuals facing poverty in the UK.

There are three choices to consider. If you believe the number of people living in poverty is between 3 and 6 million, kindly raise your hands. Now, if you think it falls between 6 and 12 million, please raise your hands.

Lastly, if you believe there are over 12 million people living in poverty, raise your hands. Thank you for your participation.

Based on the responses and in alignment with the findings from my recent poll prior to this presentation, it turns out there are actually 14 million people living in poverty, which accounts for over a fifth of our population.

This observation highlights a concerning reality that there might not be enough focus on this critical issue.

When delving into potential solutions for poverty, it becomes crucial to examine the political perspectives and gain a clear understanding of their proposed strategies.

Both the right-wing and left-wing offer intriguing viewpoints on how to best address poverty. Theresa May, the former president from the conservative party, advocates for the creation of more jobs and stimulating the market as the optimal approach to helping the impoverished earn a living.
