Innledning
I listened to a recording called “how America’s justice system is rigged against the poor”. In the recording, Wes Caines talks about how difficult it is to be someone who has been released from prison in America.
How hard it is to get a fresh start back in society and live a normal life again. Should inmates get free education so they easily can get back to society when released?
Wes works on a frontline to help people with criminal histories to overcome their past and get them to focus on their present life. He mentions a few consequences of being in contact with the criminal system.
After contact with the criminal justice system, millions of Americans have been rejected for employment and houses, denied a college education, excluded from public benefits, and much more.
Utdrag
First of all, I chose to write about the American dream because I find it interesting. I will be writing about why so many want to achieve this, and at the same time find out what the phrase means to different people.
The idea behind the American dream can be very individual. When I think of it, I imagine foreigners who want a better life for themselves and their families.
Not to mention a safer country, better education, and more freedom. But what do you think Americans think of it? I have watched several movies which show the American dream from an immigrant’s perspective.
They must flee their home country to give themselves a better life. Although this isn’t the case for everyone, it sadly is for a lot of people.
In fact, they won’t only need a new home or workplace, but it may also be extremely hard for them to fit into society.
They make a big choice which often is for the better in the long run. Some immigrants even get a cultural shock when coming to new countries because of how different it is.
Not only this, but many immigrants don’t even know English when coming to America. The choice of leaving your country isn’t a small matter, but for the purpose of a better future, a lot of people do.
