Innledning
Submarine is a coming-of-age book, written by the welsh author Joe Dunthorne. The book follows soon-to-be 15 years old Oliver Tate as he deals with his parents’ marital issues, depression, death and sexual curiosities.

The novel covers serious relatable issues for teens growing up in today’s society, but somehow also manages to be a really comical.

The main character of the book, Oliver, clearly struggles with some social issues and is highly dependent on lists of things not to say, overanalyzing situations and avoiding having to deal with uncomfortable experiences by envisioning them differently.

But all these points really seem to add to his very well written unpredictable character, sometimes he is very sweet and adorable, other times he is just really creepy and weird. His strange wording is also the main reason the book is so funny.
