Innledning
Dear esteemed classmates and respected educator,
My name is Yousef Safi, and I hail from Denmark. I have had the privilege of studying in this great country for approximately 8 months.
During my time here, my primary focus has been on the obesity epidemic prevalent in American society. Today, I am excited to share the results of my research through this speech.
This presentation will center on identifying the factors contributing to the obesity epidemic in the United States, factors that society has not yet effectively addressed.
Additionally, I intend to discuss preventive measures that can be taken by society, companies, and other third-party organizations to combat this growing problem. But first, let's delve into the scope of the issue.
Utdrag
Over the past 50 years, the nutrition culture of Americans has undergone a drastic transformation, and this factor can be examined from two dimensions.
Firstly, the widespread availability of processed and unhealthy foods has increased exponentially. Local communities now boast numerous McDonald's and KFC outlets, making fast food easily accessible.
Unfortunately, unhealthy options often come at a lower cost compared to nutritious vegetables, creating a significant concern.
Secondly, many low-income families find it challenging to afford or even access healthy food in their neighborhoods, perpetuating a cycle of poor nutrition.
The combination of a struggling economy pushing people into poverty and limited access to affordable healthy food creates a desperate situation for many individuals and families.
The sedentary lifestyle prevalent among Americans today is a common trend in developed countries.
Advancements in transportation, such as automobiles, and technological entertainment opportunities like television, Xbox, and Gameboys have contributed to a decline in physical activity levels.
This pattern is especially concerning for children, who are particularly impacted by these sedentary behaviors. Some experts argue that the lack of available areas for physical activity further exacerbates the situation.
Public institutions have not prioritized the promotion of transportation means that involve physical activity, like biking.
The inadequate construction of bikeways across America not only discourages cycling but also endangers cyclists, making it an unattractive transportation choice.
In conclusion, addressing the obesity epidemic in the United States requires a comprehensive approach that takes into account various factors, including improving nutrition options and affordability, encouraging physical activity through better infrastructure, and raising awareness about the detrimental effects of a sedentary lifestyle.
