Utdrag
As the wedding ceremony unfolds, an unexpected interruption comes in the form of a man named Mr. Mason. He calls out and claims that Rochester is already married and cannot wed another woman.
Rochester reluctantly admits the truth and takes Jane to see his first wife, Bertha, who resides in the attic of Thornfield Hall. Bertha's madness is apparent, and her previous attempt to burn down the house adds to the shocking revelation.
Filled with sorrow, Jane departs from Thornfield Hall after experiencing a series of unfortunate events. Homeless and destitute, she wanders the streets begging for food and a place to rest.
Fortunately, she is discovered by the Rivers siblings - St. John, Diana, and Mary - who take her in and provide her with much-needed care and comfort. As Jane grows closer to the family, especially the girls, St. John secures her a teaching position at a school in Morton.
One day, St. John shares some unexpected news with Jane: her deceased uncle, John Eyre, had left her a vast fortune of 20,000 £. While this revelation brings her some happiness, it pales in comparison to the fact that St. John, Diana, and Mary are actually her cousins.
Overwhelmed with joy, Jane decides to divide the inheritance equally among them, insisting that it is only fair, even though the money was intended solely for her.
St. John had plans to carry out missionary work in India, and he persistently urged Jane to join him as his spouse. However, Jane declined the offer as she longed to revisit Thornfield Hall and reunite with Mr. Rochester.
Eventually, she left for Thornfield Hall, hoping to relive the fond memories she had created there. To her dismay, she found the hall in ruins, ravaged by a destructive inferno.
