"I'm typically not one to believe in superstitions, but a peculiar event that occurred during my youth in 1943 has left me without a rational explanation."

Countless youths refrained from gathering, with a particularly high number in Eastern Norway. To evade mobilization, we sought refuge in the woods, earning ourselves the moniker "the lads in the woods".

The most capable among us were quickly recruited into Milorg, and some even received various assignments throughout the country. Several boys were sent to Sweden to join their police forces.

About 25 boys were arranged to travel to Oslo by train with a few days between each group. Afterward, they traveled to Tønsberg, Sandefjord, and Larvik before establishing their own route from the Langesundsfjord to Sweden.

"Can you tell me about your experience? I'm guessing you were a part of Milorg?" asked Christopher.

"Yes, that's correct. I stayed in one of the camps created by Milorg. We were trained in weapon handling, military discipline, and were a part of Milorg's united forces, preparing for the liberation."

"What was it like living in the woods? Did you sleep on the forest floor?" inquired Christopher.

"The living conditions ranged from rudimentary huts to well-built cabins. In some camps, such as mine, we had access to a barber and even tooth extractions."

"There wasn't much to do in the camp. Apart from necessary camp work, we trained, waited, and waited some more.

Occasionally, we would receive drops containing weapons and equipment, and if we were lucky, there would be some chocolate and tobacco inside.

Chocolate never tasted as good as it did then. We only received a small piece each, but the taste could linger for hours!"
