1946:
-Winston Churchill first introduces the term Iron Curtain in a speech at Westminster College.

-US tries to get a law passed for UN to control all nuclear material, Soviet objects.
Poland accepts communist reforms.

1947:
-US congress grants $400 million to aid Turkey and Greece in the fight against communist guerrillas.

-UN authorizes the creation of the State of Israel.

-Romania's monarchy is replaced by a communist regime.

1948:
-Communist coup in Czechoslovakia, non-communist countries form the Atlantic regional mutual-defence treaty.

-Korean People’s Democratic Republic founded.

1949:
-NATO is formed by: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and the United States. Later joined by Greece, Spain, Turkey, and West Germany.

-Soviet Union forms competing Warsaw Pact.

-Truman announces that USSR exploded an Atomic Bomb in August.

1950:
-State of Vietnam is recognized by the US.

-Senator Joseph P. McCarthy claims to have a list of "known" Communists "making policy" in the Department of State.

-The US claim that Soviet have a “design for World Domination”.

-The Korean War begins as North Korean troops launch a surprise attack on South Korea. Chinese troops cross the Yalu River into Korea.

1952:
-US puts their first nuclear submarine in use.

1953:
-Josef Stalin dies.

-The Korean War ends and a Demilitarised Zone is created between North and South Korea.

1954:
-Soviet unveils first jet-propelled long-range bomber.

-US backs the overthrow of the Guatemalan government.

-Communist party outlawed in the US.

-SEATO: Australia, Britain, France, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, New Zealand, and the United States form an anti-communist alliance against "massive military aggression".

-West Germany joins NATO.
