Innledning
I choose to talk about global challenges, and I got inspired from the text “gender equality is your issue too”, which is a speech held by Emma Watson.

I am going to talk about gender roles in today’s society, how it affects sexual assault, and why male aggression has become so normalized.

Over the past 30 years, violence against women has become recognized as a serious public health issue across the globe.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 43.2 percent of women who have been raped or suffered rape attempts were attacked before age 18.

Women between the ages of 16 and 19 are four times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape or sexual assault.

This is a part of what we call a patriarchal society. Patriarchy is a social system in which men hold primary power in roles of political leadership, social privilege and control of property.

women are underprivileged of access to such power. An example of a patriarchal society is where men hold the control and make all the rules and women stay home and care for the kids.

Holds the ideology that to be a man is to be dominant in society and that the subordination of women is required to maintain such power.

Thousands of years of patriarchy has laid pretty good groundwork for men to feel entitled to their power over women. and it’s not so long since a wife was considered her husband’s property and had no legal rights whatsoever.

Today, we still live in a society that establishes women’s subordination at every level – from the home to our workplace, Even in the courtroom.

The legal system is designed to protect men from the superior power of the state but not to protect women or children from the superior power of men.

Men don’t abuse women because society tells them it’s OK. Men abuse women because society tells them they are entitled to be in control.

In fact, society says that if they are not in control, they won’t succeed – they won’t get the girl, and they won’t get the money.

It says that if they fail to declare themselves like “real men”, they will end up poor and alone.
