If the robots are taking over the "little man's jobs", how can ordinary people afford to have a personal robot?
Proyas drops so many hints that could have been followed up on, for example we are introduced to a personal relationship between Calvin and Dr. Lanning, which is only mentioned once in the entire film.
Also, the terrible backstory behind why Spooner has a bad feeling about the robots is pretty unclear, and we never really get to understand the character of the Deputy Director of NS4.
He is presented as a bad guy, until Spooner and Calvin suddenly find him murdered. ("Oops, I think we were wrong about him") A lot more fuss could have been made about these themes than was made in I, Robot.
