Utdrag
1. What is the setting of the novel? When was the novel published? (Why is that important?)

o - It’s in the 1930s in Alabama (in the very south, near the Gulf of Mexico). It was a southern American gothic theme; everything was kind of misstructured and without a particular order.

During the depression. One example of this is when the shop owner, at the very end of the book, removed the stickers saying “NPA(?)”.

o - The Civil Rights movements in the 1960s. This book tells us the need for the Civil Rights movement.

Tom Robinson was judged by “the color of skin and not the content of his character”, as Martin Luther King once talked about. You didn’t get justice in this period, just because of the color of your skin.

o - 1962 – the movie was made based on the novel and won the Oscar Award (Gregory Pat – Best actor).

o - It’s about a black man, named Tom Robinson, who has been falsely accused of rape by a white man.
