Innledning
J.R.R. Tolkien, the renowned author of "The Lord of The Rings", was born in Bloemfontein, the capital of the Orange Free State (now part of South Africa), on January 3, 1892.
His father, Arthur Tolkien, worked as a bank principal. Mabel Suffield, Arthur's fiancé, followed him to the colonies, and the couple married in Cape Town in 1891.
However, due to a drought in Africa and John's poor health, the family, including John's brother Hilary Tolkien, embarked on a journey to England and settled in Birmingham, where Mabel's family resided.
Utdrag
During his stay in the hospital, John embarked on a new project, which he called "The Book of Lost Tales".
This was a significant turning point for him, as it marked the beginning of his attempt to create a mythology for England.
He drew inspiration from the Northern mythology that he admired and set out to reconstruct something similar.
In addition to creating his own languages, John continued to develop them. Among the most important were "Qenya", inspired by Finnish, and "Goldogrin", which drew from Welsh influences.
Through these endeavors, John's creativity and passion for storytelling continued to flourish.
After being unable to continue his military service in France due to his health, John returned to England in the autumn of 1917 and rejoined the military.
That November, his first son was born, and he named him John Francis Reuel Tolkien after himself and his guardian.
In 1920, John became a lecturer in English at the University of Leeds, and in the spring of that year, his second son, Michael Tolkien, was born.
By 1924, he had become a professor and welcomed his third son, Christopher Tolkien.
Despite his busy schedule, John made time for his children and often told them fairy tales that he created on the spot.
He also continued to work on his book "The Book of Lost Tales", which he later renamed "The Silmarillion".
Over time, the story underwent several changes and evolved into a poem. John's dedication to his family and his craft were evident in everything he did.
