Oppgavebeskrivelse
In this essay, I will analyze the challenges to social mobility in Britain and explore potential solutions to overcome them.
Innledning
Britain is witnessing an increasing division that hinders an entire generation of young people from achieving the "good life" through upward social mobility.
The chances of young individuals from poor households attending prestigious universities like Oxbridge are significantly lower, with only 1 in 8 becoming high earners in their chosen fields.
In contrast, those from working-class backgrounds have higher representation in professions such as doctors, barristers, and journalists.
The reasons behind this issue facing Britain are under scrutiny, and Prime Minister Theresa May has pledged to build a better Britain, addressing the problem by implementing mature changes to the education system to assist those left behind.
Utdrag
Poppy Noor, a young student in her late 20s, is among the few from her background to attend university, making her a compelling example of overcoming challenges in a "treadmill family." However, her upbringing remains a significant barrier to earning a decent living.
Due to financial constraints, she lives with her boyfriend and his mother, and after graduating from university, she had to accept a job that paid just above the minimum wage, leaving her unable to save money.
This shows that even when one breaks a social and economic pattern, their background can still be a major obstacle in life.
