Utdrag
Despite the obvious challenges in her personal life, Diana still managed to contribute with a ton of love and joy to the world. The British monarchy has always given to charity, however Diana took it a step further.
She used her privilege and platform to fight for the vulnerable and spread awareness about causes such as leprosy, HIV/AIDS and landmines in Africa (Rekha Balakrishnan, 2019).
In the early 80`s when HIV/AIDS spread globally, it was feared, and people believed it could be transmitted by touch.
So, when Princess Diana in 1978 not only visited, but hugged and shaked hands with HIV-patients, the world was in shock, yet inspired.
She managed to change the worlds attitude towards the disease. Later in her life Diana also fought for banning landmines, she travelled to Angola herself and stepped out on an active minefield.
Pictures of her alongside children who had lost legs or arms due to landmines touched many and engaged them to fight alongside her.
Diana advocated for the awareness of leprosy and she cared for the homeless and young. In her short 31 years, Diana was a patron for over 100 Charities and became a memorable humanitarian figure.
A few months before her tragic death, she auctioned off 78 of her dresses, in order to raise money for charity, she donated a total of 3.26 million pound (Jennifer Calfas, 2017).
Diana was a style icon, a humanitarian, a future queen at some point, but above all she was a mother. Princess Diana valued the role as a mother, over the role and her duty as a royal.
Her mindset lead to some raised eyebrows inward the royal family, however huge respect from the public, especially mothers.
