Utdrag
1. Sender: Who is speaking?
What is the background of the speaker/sender; family, education, occupation, political or religious views, age, gender, social level?
What is the context/medium?

2. Topic: What is the topic/subject/theme?
What type of text is it? Is it an essay, news article (KISS=Keep It Short and Simple, topical), feature article (long, personal, focus on people), speech, advertisement, letter or interview?

3. Receiver: Who is listening to/reading the text?
What is the reader’s background, such as family, education, occupation, religious or political views, social level, age, gender?

Stay mindful of the distinction between an envisioned audience and our role as readers. Frequently, the identity of the recipient only unveils itself through a comprehensive analysis of the text. Bear in mind that every text caters to both an intended (ideal) and an actual (real) receiver.
What is the context on which the message is received?

4. Argumentation:
Claim (påstand): Which claim does the sender want the receiver to believe in?
Grounds (belæg): What is the sender’s argument for the claim? (look for: because, as, the reason etc.)
Warrant (hjemmel): This is what makes the data “true”
