Adding to the pressure, his wife Linda also contributes to the family income by working in a hotel laundry, which strains their relationship.
Eventually, Linda travels to New York, leaving Chris Gardner to care for their son, Christopher. Despite facing the grim prospect of homelessness due to financial struggles and scanner sales, Chris refuses to surrender. He redoubles his efforts, determined to overcome these hardships.
